Our Story

Pangur Bán represents the joy and satisfaction that comes from applying your well-honed skill to a task.

Sometime in the ninth century, an Irish monk living in Germany dedicated a poem to his cat, Pangur Bán. They were companions — just as his cat enjoyed hunting for mice, the monk took great pleasure hunting for ideas. Each drew intense satisfaction in each other’s company and the work they were best suited for.

Inspired by this story, Pangur Bán Communications celebrates the satisfaction that comes from achieving your communications-related issues and challenges.

James Malloy Harmon, PhD, CPSM

James is the founder and owner of Pangur Bán Communications. He will work with you directly as an extension of your team, providing clarity and the benefit of deep and diverse experience.

With over 15 years in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries as a marketer and over 25 years’ experience as a writer and editor, James is dedicated to helping people and organizations express themselves in the best way possible to make their ideas shine.

For James, helping people improve their communications to make their ideas shine is what drives him. With a background as a university lecturer, James brings expertise in leading and mentoring individuals and teams. Nothing is more satisfying after a long workshop session than seeing that look of epiphany on people’s faces as they emerge into the light, from being stuck to finally understanding and articulating their win themes.

James is a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM) and is a recognized leader in the AEC marketing industry. As the President of the Seattle chapter of Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS)— one of the largest chapters in North America — James brings a unique depth of expertise and a demonstrated commitment to the profession and the individuals and teams he serves.
